18th Century – Foundations Laid
The Goldcroft building dates back to the 1700s and started life as a coaching inn. Its location on the Common made it a key stop for travellers seeking rest and refreshment.
1873 – A Community Hub
Goldcroft Common was officially designated as Caerleon’s fairground, drawing locals and visitors for seasonal events. The inn quickly became a social hub for traders, farmers, and fairgoers alike.

Late 1800s
By the late 19th century, The Goldcroft was operating as a fully licensed pub. With stables still in use, it catered to drovers and townsfolk looking for hearty food and good company.
1914 – Listed in John’s Directory
The Goldcroft Inn appears in the 1914 John’s Directory of Caerleon, with John Grudy listed as proprietor—marking its official recognition in the local business community.

2024 – A New Chapter Begins
The Goldcroft continues to operate under new local ownership. With a renewed focus on food, service, and community, it quickly re-established itself as a local favorite.
2024 – Award-Winning Recognition
The Goldcroft Inn was proudly named Best Pub in Wales at the Best of Welsh Business Awards, a testament to the passion, quality, and care poured into every pint, plate, and person served.
